If you are looking for a name for a new restaurant venture, you might want to steer away from the big numbers. Here's why: several sources recently told us the distressing news that 360 Bistro--one of our favorite places--was closing. Fortunately, before we could reach chef John Crow to offer our condolences, we realized what was going on. People were confusing 360 with other triple-digit restaurants One Hundred West and Bistro 215, both of which have recently shut their doors.
No, the death of 360 Bistro has been greatly exaggerated. In fact, Chef Crow & Co. are reacting to the changing habits of diners by beefing up the number of small plates on the menu, with appetizers including oysters ($2.50 a piece), cornmeal-crusted frog legs ($14) and braised beef short ribs with chestnut and root vegetable puree ($15). 360 also offers happy hour discounts daily from 4 to 6 p.m., with half-price appetizers and a daily drink feature. Located at 6000 Highway 100 (phone: 353-5604), 360 serves dinner nightly.

Wait, Bistro 215 closed? How did I miss that? That place was really good!
I know. It is a crushing blow to GH Regal goers. We could always count on seeing friends there before the movie or finding someone equally eager to deconstruct a film afterward. Brideshead Revisited over Manahattans. Nice. Should we nominate a new default dinner-and-a-movie joint? We usually do Ginza, but could expand to Crow's Nest, maybe. But both require parking twice. Other ideas?
I know some people dislike it, but my before-movie tradition in Green Hills is always Shintomi. I just park in that mall garage next to the theatre and walk over to Bandywood. It's not really far.
Holy heart attack. You scared the crap out of me Carrington. I thought I was going to show up for work tonight and the doors be locked. Then I read the next sentence. Whew.
I'm with Barbara. I like Shintomi. Can't speak for their cooked food, as I usually order sushi, but the sushi is top-notch.
I haven't been back to Shintomi after our party of seven spent more than $200, and they asked us to leave after an hour and a half. And didn't ask nicely, either.
The best hangout for post-movie discussion is of course Pizza Perfect after the Belcourt. Two slices and a root beer for seven bucks. You can stay as long as you want, too. My advice is to test it for yourself next weekend after the restored version of Lola Montes, simply one of the most spectacular things I've ever seen in a movie theater.
Fido is a pretty awesome post-movie hangout too. Ditto Bosco's, where we all went after The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3.
That's true about Shintomi - they're sometimes not very friendly. I seem to be invisible to them so they're never rude to me but I have seen them misbehave to others before. It's such a part of the whole experience that it doesn't bug me anymore though.
I'm trying to figure out how seven people only spent $200 there!
