This week's review features tea at the Hermitage Hotel. The $21 afternoon snack of sandwiches, scones and pastries served in the glorious rooms of the historic downtown hotel is one of my favorite local extravagances. Of course, the company on my two recent visits (see photo above) was so enchanting that I would have been happy with a glass of Nestea and an English muffin.

The enchanting company made it marvelous, and the surroundings are really wonderful. I never miss a chance to go to the Hermitage. Just remind people that the "$21 tea" is "per person, not including tip or second helpings."
Wish I'd shot a photo of the anemic tea. The pastries were just incredible, but the tea inexcusable. Your review was very polite about the quality of the tea, but they deserved to have their ears boxed about it. It was just bafflingly bad. I wondered whether the hotel had switched to Forte without sampling, maybe, or whether the Hermitage had gotten a bad batch, or the tea brewer wasn't properly trained. T
he offering didn't include a basic black tea, unless you're partial to watery oolong that didn't taste like oolong. All those crazy pineapple/peppermint/blackberry flavors and no black tea! The Earl Gray had only the barest, faintest suggestion of a whiff of a memory of bergamot, and brewed up a pale straw color, as if the water weren't hot enough. It didn't taste like tea at all. Even the loose tea wasn't any better. I've found better tea at Big Lots, which sometimes stocks PG Tips.
