My Precious! Lord of the Rings Trilogy All Day Saturday at Belcourt, With Middle Earth Meals!

Posted by on Wed, Dec 24, 2008 at 12:01 PM

What kind of food goes with a 12-hour-plus marathon of CGI elves, ents, faeries and wizards? Assuming you can get a ticket--calls have been coming from as far away as Atlanta and Chicago--the Belcourt's all-day screening Saturday of Peter Jackson's entire Lord of the Rings trilogy will send the news straight to your esophagus. Catered by Fido, the costumed event provides three between-films meals and afternoon tea as part of the $50 admission ($40 to Belcourt members).

We love the Belcourt's dinner-and-a-meal offerings. (C'mon, can't you guys cook up something with Savarino's to go with the upcoming screening of The Godfather?) But this one presents all kinds of logistical challenges. How do you remove spilled gumbo from hairy feet?  Will the fires of Mordor overcook the pork tenderloin? No matter. Were we 20 years younger and unmarried, there's no place we'd rather be. Especially in pointed prosthetic ears.

The menu, as follows:

Fellowship of the Ring (Extended Edition)

Chorizo, Egg, and Cheese Casserole
Veggie Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Casserole
Fresh Cut Fruit

Mini Muffins

The Two Towers (Extended Edition)

Crusty Bread
Mini Cookies

The Return of the King

Winter Salad with Apples and Pears, Toasted Walnuts, Feta, and Lemon Sultana Dressing
