The Twitter-sphere buzzed this afternoon with news that couldn't possibly be true: (yn) Nashville, the affordable wine boutique in Green Hills recently named best wine store in the Nashville Scene's Best of Nashville, is closing.
Unfortunately, it's true. An interiors company wanted the space and offered a higher rent, so (yn) is relinquishing its store, just months after opening the spare, stylish shop. Tomorrow is the last day of business.
To clear the inventory, proprietor Ed Fryer is offering 25 percent off a six-pack of bottles. Go on, show Ed some oenophile love and help him empty the shelves. Say goodbye to him and wish him luck. Hopefully, he'll be like a cork, and he'll pop up somewhere else.

Really? That sucks. I hope they do pop up somewhere else. Or that Trader Joe's finds a way to sell wine in Nashville.
He's not gone forever -- his wife owns the wine shop in Green Hills. I believe there was also an issue with that, since a person or family is only permitted to own one liquor store. My next reporting job should be to root out the convoluted liquor-retail rules and quiz someone about them.
Wait! The Frugal Macdoogle guy has more than one store! Reading about the "Trader Joe-wine in supermakets-shipping wine-think of the kids" soap opera, there was a mention of how macdoogle is a nashville based chain and has expanded to South Carolina. I guess that is ok?
On the same topic (supermarket sales) I love how Charles Sonnenberg, owner of Frugal goes on to say that it is a bad idea, and how the SC store has more problems because of the more liberal laws. He should do the right thing then and close that store. Yeah right. Ka Ching!!!
