Feeling Thankful for Small Good Things

Germantown's precious DrinkHaus crams so many good things in one little space. The layout and atmosphere transport you to the little stand-and-have-a-coffee places in Europe, and then there's the bleu cheese and fig jam panino with crunchy garlicky chips and a sweet little chocolate-covered toffee for dessert.

One more thing to love: the beverages, like this elderflower soda, come in compostable cups. It's contentment in a cup. Who would have thought a quick stop for a drink could be so uplifting?

Lots of times compostable cups are made of corn. It seems like a good idea to make disposable cups from corn instead of petroleum, but the practice is criticized for diverting crops from food production when famine and inequity exist in the world. Compostable cups seem like a great idea but the jury is still out. Taking your own reusable cup is probably the most socially responsible course of action.

That's good intel on corn production, Tom. I wonder, though, if the health department allows people to bring their own cups... Anyone know?
