Just two more days, friends, so drop everything or you'll miss the coffee-table-size "biggest watermelon" at the Tennessee State Fair.
Husband and wife Freddie and Sharon Burcham of Ashland City took first and second place with a 208.5-pounder and a 203-pounder. These undeniably impressive melons are the Carolina Cross variety, raised from seeds saved from the 229-pound winning melon Burcham raised and showed about three years back.
Burcham's first place won him $600, and Sharon's second place earned $400. Maybe it doesn't grow on trees, but vines are another thing altogether. The Tennessee State Fair runs through Sept. 14.
