Smash the piggy bank and scrounge under the sofa cushions again, because there are still seats available for tonight’s James Beard Foundation dinner at Martha’s at the Plantation. For $175, you’ll get a taste of Martha Stamps’ Southern hospitality, not to mention the creativity of culinary luminaries Mike Lata of FIG in Charleston; John Fleer of Sunburst Trout Co. in Canton, N.C.; Donald Link of Herbsaint in New Orleans; Tandy Wilson of City House; and Joe Shaw of The Standard at the Smith House.

Proceeds from the dinner will benefit an oral history project that seeks to preserve the traditions of classic American cooking. The six-course dinner, which marks the James Beard Foundation’s first official pilgrimage to Nashville, starts at 6 p.m. in the carriage house of the Belle Meade Plantation. For reservations, call 353-2828.
