He Is The Walrus

Posted by Carrington Fox on Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 1:00 PM

This refreshingly unscripted review of Wild Ginger comes to us via insecurewalrus, whoever he may be. Walrus, give us a call sometime and we'll go get some lunch—maybe at Cici's Pizza? I hear you love it there.

I'm sorrrrrry..I'm still slogging through laundry, messages and mail from my week away....so far, 37 bills, one lousy check.
I haven't had time to check this out yet..and okay, to be honest, I'm a little afraid. I've managed to avoid YouTube....I fear it's a slippery slope.
I have to write up the finale of Nashville Star (speaking of torture) but will tune in to The Walrus tomorrow because now I have to know.

I was trying to find a place to email you, but couldn't find anything, so I'm posting a comment. Do you know anything about the Bound'ry closing yesterday? We're supposed to have our wedding there in a couple of months and can't seem to get a response out of them!

I like him. There's a genuine quality about the guy. He may not be as articulate as some snobs (see above) may like, but he seemed excited about that meal. Isn't that excitement pretty cool in and of itself?

Oh, come on. I don't mean to turn this into a referendum on the Walrus, but what's not to like? Did you watch the Cici's pizza video? Don't tell me that, at some level, that's not exactly what's going on in your own inner monologue. Koo koo katchoo.

Actually, come to think of it, I just finished watching this season of The Next Food Network Star, and it was excruciating watching those contestants create video intros and segments for their proposed shows. I think the Walrus did admirably for a single-shot. Maybe Bites could host a contest in which people send in videos of themselves reviewing restaurants. Not me, obviously. In the cowardly and non-camera-friendly tradition of Those Who Can't Do, I would just sit back and judge them all. Any takers?

Damn Claudia! Remind me never to piss you off.
Me, I'm with Carrington and Bones on this one. If his review were published word-for-word in a magazine, I would find cause for criticism of his writing abilities. But it's an off-the-cuff take on YouTube, where people have fun putting up whatever the hell they feel like—and most importantly, they're not trying to sell it to you, they're not asking you to watch it, and they're not claiming to be pros. Dude was just having fun....

Any food review that ALSO manages to mention of roller derby??? Well that is genius. Does the Walrus Twitter? Can I follow him everywhere?

Oh I enjoyed it. And he managed to work in a plug for roller derby as well. Very intriguing.
Does he Twitter? Can I follow the Walrus everywhere?

and how am i being mean?
because i think the guy is not a reliable source of food criticing for me? and not interesting or funny enough to catch my interest on any other level?
to me, the walrus is nonsensical. but look guys, whatever floats your boat. knock yourselves out. but that kinda thing is not my thing. and i make no apologies for that...
yeah, i'm soooooo mean...

Wow Claudia,
How utterly superior of you! I am sure the Walrus is not nearly as worldly as yourself. After all, flying around the country eating at the psuedo uber hip places you write about in your Rhulmanesque wanna be blog must be quite exhausting. However please keep in mind that sometimes we lesser mortals just want a suggestion as to where a more common palatte may be sated. As far as Alina, if I wanter to eat food as art, a can of Cheeze Whiz, some fried bologna and a coathanger would probably work just as well for me.

hey dog - i see that you don't approve of my travels/ restaurant choices. or my "wanna be" blog. how sad is that you feel you need to lash out at me because i fine dine on occasion and enjoy cooking different kinds of food than perhaps you enjoy or are used to seeing.
you're obviously not my audience, as i am not the walrus'. but the public has spoken - and i guess there are a few fine folks who kinda like what i do. my readership is not necessarily nashville orientated and i am really ok with that...
it's a big cool world out there
now go and have yourself a lovely day

we should move this discussion to Cream. I think it would be a lot more fun. Claudia, I like reading your blog and posts here on Cream for the most part. keep it up. And Walrus, if you're out there, please keep it up to.

and walrus? let's do lunch. it's on me, bro. just contact me via my blog and we'll go to the latest greatest in town! i may not love your food critiques but you seem like a sweetheart and it'd be fun/funny.

I definitely agree with him about Cici's Pizza: "total anarchy."
And that's how I would describe things, "A dot of sauce topped with a dot of an orange sauce that was really tasty." Awesome.

And sometimes we lesser mortals like to hear about all those pseudo uber hip places, because more than likely we will never get to visit them and we're anxious to hear that there's life beyond CiCi's. That said, I get a kick out of the Walrus' cell phone dispatches: he's like a war correspondent broadcasting from the front lines of split-second lunch decisions.

someone find the walrus! please! paging the walrus..... hello?
oh, and dog... those uber hip restaurants? they're not the pseudo kind. they're actually "uber hip" (as you like to call them). i guess the fact that grant achatz won the 2008 james beard award for best chef in the entire country doesn't impress you. well, man o man, does that impress me... anyone who is the best at what they do and gets international critical acclaim for it impresses the hell out of me. like mario batali and nancy silverton and thomas keller and gabrielle hamilton and lidia bastianich and on and on.
these brilliant chefs are the A+ team. i am in awe of what they do. my food is but a mediocre rendition... but i aspire to do better and eating their food is the best inspiration i could ever wish for.
ps. dog? you're a fucking dickwad
now go and have yourself a lovely day
oh AND...
bless your heart
THE END

Hello good people of Nashville. I am amused by your comments and amazed by your interest in my little video blogs. I was made aware of this public mention and have so far thoroughly enjoyed it. To answer, excuse, and settle some of the issues I felt were raised during this process, I have made a blog specifically about this subject. Thank you and please subscribe and comment if you’d like.
