News Pie in the (Midtown) Sky

Pie in the Sky Pizza is coming to midtown, with plans to renovate the former Longhorn Steakhouse at 110 Lyle Ave.
The store represents a return to Music Row for songwriter Kelly Black. As a former staff writer for Sony, Black used royalties from his songs recorded by Diamond Rio, Joe Diffie and Neal McCoy to open his first family-friendly pizza restaurant in 2001 at 1770 Galleria Blvd. in Cool Springs. He and wife Caroline now have a second store at 6917 Lenox Village Drive.
The Blacks plan to remodel the interior of the former roadhouse-style building and add a patio with garage doors. The third Pie in the Sky will have the signature menu of pizza, wings, sandwiches, pasta and salads and will possibly extend its hours and beer list to accommodate the midtown crowd. The new restaurant is projected to open this fall.

Great for kids (are there kids in midtown?), but if I'm headed midtown way, I'm going the extra distance to Mafiaoza's. Similar price point, much better product.

You know, I was thinking about that the other day...what is the best pizza in Nashville? There are several worthy contenders. Of course Pizza Perfect is near and dear to my heart, but you know what? I think Mellow Mushroom might just take the prize. It's so good!
BP - My husband would agree with you about the Mushroom, and I guess the Pie in the Sky style is very similar, but not as butter-garlicky. PS doesn't have the soft pretzels - strike one! I've never figured out what's so cool about "spring water dough," though. Both PS and MM are too heavy for me.
I eat too much damn pizza.
I like PitS all right. The boyfriend and I went to the Lenox Village location last weekend. But good lord, it can get really expensive in comparison to take-out. And it seems that all their desserts were in the $7 range. At a pizza place??
If I had my druthers, West Nashville and/or Midtown would be hope to a House of Pizza (one that would be open later hours). Or my beloved Memphis Pizza Cafe. Or both!
PP is great. I've only had PitS once, but I think I got a sandwich. MM is good - but way too SLOW. Wolfman pizza in Charlotte NC is still my favorite outside Chicago.
Mafioza's probably isn't the worst pizza in Nashville, but its close. Their food is shit. Their service is shit. Then there is the clientele : DIE YUPPIE SCUM!!
+1 to TobintheGnome's comment. But Terry is one of the best bartenders in Nashville.
It's killer that Pie In The Sky is coming to midtown. MM is not even close to their quality! Mafiaozzza's is just a meat market with crappy pizza. I think Pizza Perfect is great, but they don't have table service or a big menu. I drive to Cool Springs for the pizza now, and I'm stoked their coming down the street from my Job. Does anybody know if they are going to deliver?
Manny's House of Pizza, Joey's and the Pizza Perfect on 21st are the pies to beat in Nashville, but none is kid-friendly—at least not to the same degree as Pie in the Sky. Mafiaoza's is the only pizza I've ever had that managed to be both soggy and burned. MM takes forever and is too chewy. Sometime I want to travel down Cool Springs way and check out Garlic Jim's.
We ordered delivery from Garlic Jim's and I thought it was just ok. I think it depends on how you like your crust, though. It was clear that they used good ingredients but I haven't been tempted to order again.
I thought Maffioza's was *terrible* and second Mr. Pink's comments.
We ate Garlic Jim's last night. I thought the hand tossed crust was definitely superior to the thin crust. The ingredients were fresh and they weren't stingy with 'em. Overall, they make a good pizza. Is it worth the drive to Franklin? Nope, especially since you can't dine is.
