It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that Kalamata's has a concept that works. The tiny Mediterranean restaurant in Green Hills overflows with a hungry and devoted clientele of business folks, ladies who lunch, moms with toddlers and just about anyone else who feels hunger pangs while driving along Hillsboro Road.
So owner Maher Fawaz--lovingly known to many as the Falafel Tyrant--is taking the plunge into Brentwood, opening a second full-scale Kalamata's this fall. (He recently partnered with a Vanderbilt business school student to open a cafe in the Owen Graduate School of Management.) He promises the second store--located in the strip mall with T.J. Maxx--will be just like the original, with all the old favorites: Great Greek salad, garlic knots, chicken salad and baklava. Fawaz is handing the reins of the Brentwood store to his sister, Ghada Fawaz, who recently relocated from Detroit. Maher will be on site every now and then, but he'll be in Green Hills most of the time. So don't get any ideas. He'll still reprimand you if he doesn't approve of your order. (Listen to him—it's important to try new things.)
Kalamata's II is located at 330 Franklin Road.
