Best Next Mayor

It's a little early for this, since Karl Dean's still got three years left on his term, but we can dream, can't we? We don't know about you, but we're feeling a little buyer's remorse. Dean has turned out to be not exactly as progressive as billed. He's cozied up to developers and adopted the annoying habit of keeping silent in the face of all manner of shenanigans. Not for nothing is he known as "Kan't Say Karl." While Dean stayed on the sidelines where he likes it, Briley stood up to the developers and helped save that little pleasant corner of Davidson County known as Bells Bend. We can't be certain, since we haven't seen it much in our lifetimes, but that looked suspiciously like leadership. Briley would make a great mayor, so naturally, he finished last in the 2007 election. Here's hoping he tries again. —JEFF WOODS
