August Moon Immersive Indoor Drive-In Planned for Nashville
August Moon Immersive Indoor Drive-In Planned for Nashville

What's not to love about that most nostalgic of Middle American experiences, the drive-in movie theater? The popcorn, the cars, the milkshakes, the 40,000-foot air-supported dome.

Anyway, that's the concept behind August Moon Drive-In, an immersive indoor replica of a 1960s drive-in that's slated to open in Nashville next year, according to Variety. August Moon's planned location is near I-24's James Robertson Parkway exit. Says Variety, the $10 million facility will feature a "simulated starry sky, seating in modified classic cars and food service (with a full bar) focused on artisanal takes on comfort-food standards like burgers and milkshakes."

So, artisanal burgers and stationary cars aside, what else will August Moon have to offer? Apparently, first-run films and classics alike, to be shown on the "largest non-IMAX movie screen in North America." But here's a possible deal-breaker for fans of the fourth wall: Apparently, "interactive billboard technology" will allow live performers to interact with audience members during previews and after credits, Purple Rose of Cairo style. Yikes!

Beyond that, if this is all indoors, why are these not all convertables?

August Moon — the brainchild of interactive-experience expert Michael Counts — will also feature faux trees, fireflies, sunsets, the whole nine. Tickets are expected to cost between $8 and $20 (prices vary depending on seating). You can see further details and concept art via Project13.com. Says the site, August Moon "dramatically upgrades the experience of going to the movies." OK!
