Suspect Behavior
Unsportsmanlike conduct
A
free T-shirt giveaway at a Vanderbilt football game turned into a
frenzy for one fan, who knocked down his own daughter while trying to
score the free loot. When a nearby concessions employee attempted to
help the girl, her 35-year-old father grabbed the man and threw him
down on the concrete floor, police say. The suspect was charged with
disorderly conduct for the offense, and didn’t even get a free shirt in
the deal.
A marital spatula
Police
responded to a house in 12 South four times in one day after receiving
repeated calls from neighbors reporting a disturbance. On the fourth
call, an officer encountered a man in the front yard who claimed his
wife had chased him outside with a knife. Upon further questioning,
however, the man admitted she was only wielding a spatula. At that
point, the 25-year-old woman ran outside, where she continued arguing
with her husband in front of police. Despite her seemingly harmless
weapon of choice, the woman was arrested and charged with domestic
assault.
To crack a smile
A
confidential police informant known by the code name “Bull’s Eye on the
Run” agreed to take part in a sting operation by purchasing three grams
of crack while wearing a wire. After buying the rocks, the informant
met with police to turn over the stash, and one of the officers noticed
the defendant had something in his mouth. “I immediately put handcuffs
on the defendant and told him to spit out the crack,” the officer
reported, at which point the suspect spit out a white rock, and then
apologized for trying to get away with some of the drugs. The
54-year-old was charged with theft for attempting to steal Metro police
evidence.
Look, don’t touch
Officers
patrolling Opry Mills Mall received several complaints about a drunk
guy grabbing women as they shopped. A security officer spotted the
suspect stumbling around the mall and attempted to talk to him, at
which point he became disorderly by grabbing a trashcan and flipping it
over, police say. The perp, 43, resisted the officer as he attempted to
handcuff him, and continued cussing and yelling as he was escorted to a
police cruiser outside. On the way to booking for public intoxication
and resisting arrest, the suspect admitted he was only acting up
because he was very intoxicated.
All items in Suspect Behavior are taken from actual Metro police arrest reports and affidavits.
