Suspect Behavior
Careful what you wish for
A passenger whose buddy was pulled over for drunken driving just couldn’t keep his mouth shut, despite numerous warnings to simmer down. Officers told the suspect they wouldn’t arrest him if he shut up and found another ride, police say, but he claimed he couldn’t because his cell phone was broken. An officer then offered to make the call, but the 39-year-old man insisted he would walk home instead—all the way to Murfreesboro. When police refused to let him make the 30-mile trek, the suspect said, “You’re just going to have to arrest me then.” And so they did, charging him with disorderly conduct.
Instant karma
A 33-year-old ne’er-do-well somehow convinced a total stranger to give him a ride home, and during the trip he asked the unsuspecting driver if he had change for a $20. When the man pulled out his wallet to look for change, police say the passenger snatched it and bolted from the car. Unfortunately for the thief, however, he left behind his own wallet, which contained his identification and home address. Police responded to the man’s South Ninth Street residence a short time later and arrested him for theft.
Since I’m already naked…
Just after 6 p.m. on a recent Tuesday, patrol officers spotted a completely nude man walking along Thompson Lane. As the cops pulled up, the perp “grabbed his privates and shook them,” police say. After the 30-year-old suspect was arrested and placed in the back of the cruiser, he reportedly “asked for sex from one of the officers.” Instead he was draped in a blanket and charged with indecent exposure.
Rage against the authorities
Police responded to the scene of an argument where a man was accusing an acquaintance of stealing his cell phone. After resolving the dispute, officers were heading out the door when the accused thief loudly warned, “I’m gonna beat you up after they leave.” The officers tried to calm the 22-year-old suspect, who then threatened to beat up the cops at the scene, as well as all the officers in the city. As handcuffs were placed on one of the perp’s wrists, he began swinging the loose cuffs wildly and flailing about. The suspect finally was subdued with the help of nine officers, and he was booked for assault and resisting arrest.
Which way to the pool?
After receiving several indecent exposure calls, police responded to find a 25-year-old man wandering aimlessly wearing only a Speedo. The officers asked the suspect for his name, date of birth and address, but he refused to divulge the information. When asked a second time for his identity, the man—who already was covered in mud—threw himself on the ground and began screaming and rolling around in the dirt, police say. As officers attempted to cuff the man for disorderly conduct he stiffened his body, making it impossible for police to place him in the back of the patrol car without backup. He ultimately was charged with resisting arrest too.
