Love-Hate Mail

At least we didn’t call it “The Sexual Edification Issue”

The Feb. 9 issue of the Nashville Scene was in such poor taste that it should have been labeled “The Lust Issue” rather than the “The Sex Issue.” What place does BDSM, uninhibited masturbation, record-setting fellatio and unbounded philandering have in healthy, edifying sexual development? Absolutely none.

Our society suffers enough from the tragic consequences of unhealthy sexuality without having to have these behaviors endorsed by the Scene to its relatively young and naive audience. The Scene owes its audience and Middle Tennessee an apology.

Sex—hasn’t that been outlawed in Nashville? And does a pink flamingo on my lawn mean I’m for it or against it?

When Mom gets home and sees what you just wrote about in The Sex Issue, boy are you guys in T-R-O-U-B-L-E.

Uh, yup...don’t tell his mom

In The Sex Issue, Jack Silverman definitely takes investigative reporting to a whole new level. Is he any relation to the same-name jazz/blues guitarist who sometimes accompanies Jason White?

JEFF PITCHER

...and speaking of Jeff Pitcher

Jeff Pitcher’s mindless, unimaginative diatribe (Love/Hate Mail, Feb. 9) is typical of those miserable creatures who stand for nothing and fall for anything. It always amuses me when his ilk fall back on name-calling generalities and stupid stereotypes—of which your “paper” reeks. Besides that, he demonstrates a lack of tolerance and common sense by what he belittles. Why don’t we let Mr. Pitcher assist the staff of the Nashville Scene in creating an issue that displays, promotes and highlights the interests and lifestyles of which he and the editor seem so proud and tolerant?

It seems like The Sex Issue is a fine start: adultery, bondage and perverts galore. Why not follow up on these pathetic folks and see what the rest of their life is like? Or show how rewarding and enlightening it is to be a flag-burning, left-wing, limp-wristed, anal-sex-addicted, alcoholic, hedonistic, atheistic, troop-hating, Islamofascist-sympathizing, piece of shit that the Nashville Scene—and you, Jeff—seems to prefer, sympathize with and idolize? Don’t get me wrong—I don’t give a damn what you prefer or are willing to tolerate. I am just fed up with your intolerant and belittling attitude toward those who were raised better than that, and who refuse to be silent about it. Is this something new enough for you, Jeff?

Those damn liberals

Your caption writer committed the usual liberal mistake. Grinnin’ Barrett isn’t getting rich from the sick, he’s getting rich from the Tennessee taxpayer (Desperately Seeking the News, Feb. 9). Thanks for pointing out his real reason for going after TennCare—more money for himself.
