Affiliated local restaurants team up to launch Nashville Originals website

Diners, start your computers: Nashville Originals, the newly formed local chapter of the national Council of Independent Restaurants of America (CIRA), is launching its website with a sale of dining gift certificates on Wednesday, April 5. The quarterly sales, which offer certificates at 40 percent off the total value (e.g., a $50 certificate sells for $30), are a centerpiece of CIRA member groups’ marketing efforts. The popular program, which sells out quickly, is a win-win situation: diners get a deal, and restaurants put butts in their seats. It also helps raise funds for Nashville Originals’ marketing, advertising and event budgets.

The website can be reached through www.nashvilleoriginals.com; at press time, the site wasn’t operational yet, but log onto www.louisvilleoriginals. com for a preview of what ours will look like. Nashville Originals membership is open to interested restaurants that have been open for at least one year. The website will also serve as a portal to member restaurants all over the country—a nice tool for travelers willing to search for the real taste of a city, rather than the local link in a national chain.

Pot luck

The Melting Pot, consistently voted Nashville’s best place for a romantic dinner, is not only celebrating an anniversary next week, it’s spreading the love to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. In honor of its 11^th year on Second Avenue North, the restaurant will donate 11 percent of gross sales to the nonprofit hospital on Sunday, April 2, and 22 percent on Monday, April 3. On the actual anniversary, April 4, the Melting Pot will host a Wines for Spring tasting at 6 p.m., with 100 percent of proceeds going to St. Jude’s; the tasting is $20 per person. On April 5, the restaurant will donate 33 percent of that day’s receipts. The Melting Pot is at 166 Second Ave. N.
