A Face in the Crowd

JIM “FUN GUY” FUNGAROLI (and DOT), Guitar salesman, guitar player, motorcyclist.

How long have you been a fixture in Hillsboro Village? Since March of 1993. My first job was at Jones Pet Shop, then I joined local super group The Cactus Brothers. After my stint with the band, I started working at Cotten Music in 1995. My last day there will be this Friday.

You’re moving? Moving back home to Pennsylvania to be with my family. I just need a little change of pace, and Dot needs a chance to run in the snow. There’s lots of great places to ride dirt bikes there. That’s going to be a priority.

What are the similarities and differences between the pet shop and the music store? They’re similar in the way that you’re supporting people’s hobbies and interests. You don’t have to clean animal cages at the music store, but at the pet shop you don’t have to deal with picky musicans.

What’s the weirdest thing you ever found in a guitar case? A GQ magazine and a can of mousse. I won’t mention any names.

Anyone you’d like to thank and or give the finger to? I can’t really give anybody the finger because I might come back someday. As far as the other thing goes, Darcy Cotten and Kim Sherman here at Cotten, The Ton Up Motorcycle Club, all the taverns with 2-for-1 specials and the waitresses who remember to bring me my salt shaker.
