A Face in the Crowd

STACY CRUMPTON, Ferris wheel operator, Tennessee State Fair

Where are you from? Originally Cherokee, N.C. Now I hail out of Tampa, Fla. I’ve been working for Blue Grass [Shows] off and on for quite a few years. I really enjoy this big wheel here.

Do you pick up a lot of women on the midway? I don’t. I’ve got one, but there’s quite a few out here. But before I got with her, I had one in every town just like everybody else. It was a lot of fun.

What are the biggest days? Friday and Saturday. This year I think there’ll be a last blast armband day on closing Sunday.

Any good jokes? I know a few, but none you could print in the paper.

Advice? Take it slow and easy don’t get in a big hurry. Stop and smell the roses.

Do you mean the funnel cake? Funnel cake’s good, but I prefer the chicken on a stick myself.
