A Face in the Crowd
GORDON MELIDIS, Dining room and kitchen supervisor at Park Manor, French interpreter/translator
Where are you from? I'm from Monaco in the south of France.
How long have you been in this country? Since Oct. 1, 1967.
Why did you come to America? I was following a woman.
What would you consider your greatest achievements? When I arrived, I landed in New York City. I got a job there at Tavern on the Green as a bus boy. I worked there for 17 years and worked my way up to general director. Working there, I received four presidents and five vice presidents, along with numerous actors and actresses.

Who was your favorite actor? Cary Grant. He was a suave gentleman who always arrived with ladies on his arm. He should have been European.
Do you ever go back to France? I go back to visit my mother. France is a beautiful country, but so is America. France has great food. So does America, thanks in great part to the French chefs here. In France, they're still building skyscrapers with no air conditioning. I don't understand that. I'm now a U.S. citizen.
