A century from now, this is where you’ll find one of our city’s gustatory delights. No, we aren’t referring to a package of “properly aged” stadium dogs found behind a concessions freezer. In 100 years or so, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency hopes to have re-established the lake sturgeon population such that we’ll be able to harvest Cumberland River caviar. But why stop there? Should we decide to go forward with the Riverfront Redevelopment Plan, being released by the Civic Design Center this week, we could try to create suitable conditions for black truffles on the Steiner-Liff scrap metal site. We could start a saffron farm along the east bank esplanade, release ortolans into the urban forest. Think of the wonderful resource the riverfront could be if we just use our imagination.
