World AIDS Day Observance at The Belcourt

World AIDS Day is billed as a chance to “reflect on the myriad lives in our community and around the world that have been affected by HIV/AIDS.” That’s a daunting proposition, for those who are aware of the scope of the problem. In countries like Swaziland, HIV infection rates are as high as 26 percent. And it’s not just an African problem; the U.S. ranks tenth in number of people infected worldwide (almost one million). At the Belcourt, a performance/concert will go beyond statistics, offering audiences a chance to learn about the problem through the individual stories of those affected. The event will feature short films, theater, dance, and live music; performers will include ONE Voice and the Uganda AIDS Dance Project). Free HIV testing will be available.
