It’s been over a year since he closed the deal on a place here. Made a certain amount of sense, his being born in Chattanooga, his comedic coming-of-age in the wilds of Houston, Texas, his combining the various influences of both geographies with an urban edge and a no-nonsense approach to detecting and eradicating a host of societal ills, his wanting to spend as much quality time as possible with his family. He’s got his wife, 2-year-old daughter April, 5-month-old son August, and his platinum-selling DVDs, as well as boldface credits including Leno, Kimmel, Last Comic Standing, Celebrity Fit Club and innumerable Comedy Central appearances. All in all, as this holiday show indicates, it would appear Ralphie May’s got a lot to be thankful for. Just don’t expect his ever-evolving, eternally prolific material to reflect as much. He may be happy, but he’s hard-hitting as ever.
