Marvin Stamm at Nashville Jazz Workshop

There are some musicians who are great soloists, and there are others who excel as accompanists or in sections but aren't quite as spectacular in the spotlight. Trumpeter Marvin Stamm is brilliant in any facet, whether being part of such esteemed ensembles as the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra, George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band, John Lewis' American Orchestra or any number of other large groups. But he's also been a key member of smaller combos, most notably Benny Goodman's mid-'70s sextet, and he also spent a year with Frank Sinatra. Stamm's current activities include heading his own unique band The Inventions Trio with cellist Allison Horn and pianist Bill Mays. He'll be making a special Nashville appearance at the Jazz Workshop along with the Lori Mechem Trio and saxophonist Denis Solee, doing two sets in the Jazz Cave. Admission is $20, $10 for high school and college students.
