There are two kinds of people in this world: those who have given up their lives to Rock Band—the video game that goes to 11—and those who still have jobs, families and actual meaningful human relationships. Perhaps the most addictive game since GoldenEye, Rock Band (combined with its predecessor Guitar Hero) may just be the savior of rock ’n’ roll. Just picture how many parents will successfully indoctrinate their kids into listening to The Beatles this Christmas when they slip the Fab Four-themed version of the game under the tree. As if on cue, the creator of both Rock Band and Guitar Hero, Eran Egozy, will speak at Vanderbilt about the game’s cultural influence. The event will culminate in a Rock Band competition, during which local Nashville rockers Cheer Up Charlie Daniels will compete against Vandy faculty, staff and students. Word on the street says this will involve smashing guitars.
