Stryper at The Wildhorse

In the mid-’80s, Stryper achieved platinum sales by making safe records that hinted toward the more extreme end of the spectrum. During that era of decadence, the glam metal proselytizers were able to encapsulate the least threatening aspects of British heavy metal and thrash, while becoming the one metal band President Reagan might have endorsed. And while the band's Christianity is often lampooned in a scene known for its contentious relationship with faith, Stryper offer plenty of extra fodder for joshin'. While that same faith informed such ridiculous titles and slogans as “To Hell With the Devil” and “Rock the Hell Out of You,” one must never underestimate the silliness of those yellow and black striped tights.
