On the small screen, doled out in bites between Breaking Bad ads on AMC, Jaws remains an exciting seafaring adventure and a pretty good fish story. On the big screen, Steven Spielberg’s 1975 shocker exerts an almost primal terror. If you’ve never seen it in a crowded theater, you’ve missed the nerve-shredding combined effect of John Williams’ churning score, those murky ocean depths, and Spielberg’s preternatural sense of how much (or more aptly, how little) of his piscine killing machine to show for maximum impact. The Belcourt shows you the way to go home in the next-to-last weekend of its month-long salute to ’70’s/’80s horror.
