Whether you agree that smoking is sexy and tattoos are art, this pair of shows about to close in the 12South neighborhood's Blackbird Gallery is a great introduction to the space's aesthetic mission. In its short history, Blackbird has shown an exhibit of porn-inspired paintings and featured a fashion event populated by live models encased up to their necks in gallery pedestals, revealing only their made-up faces and done-up hair-dos. Its current offerings include E.J. Holmes' show of capnolagnia fetish photographs, celebrating the arousing effects of smoke dangling from a come-hither smile, and Zachariah Fincher's graffiti- and tattoo-inspired installation that pulls from his history as a street artist.
Mondays-Sundays. Starts: June 29. Continues through July 8, 2009
