Street Theatre Company doubles its pleasure in presenting two "two-handed" shows within the space of the same monthlong run. Parallel Lives dates from 1989, and is based on the stand-up comedy of Kathy Najimy (Sister Act, Hocus Pocus, etc., and since 1997 the voice of Peggy Hill on King of the Hill) and Mo Gaffney. Cathy Street and Holly Allen star as two Supreme Beings planning the beginning of the world. Once the color scheme and sexual distinctions are established, the duo embark on numerous portrayals of men and women struggling oh-so-fallibly through modern life. Lauren Shouse directs. The other production is the more familiar Tuesdays with Morrie--based on Mitch Albom's ubiquitous best seller--which pays tribute to the author's former college teacher, who, though dying of Lou Gehrig's disease, continues to inspire his devoted ex-student in a series of intimate weekly meetings. Ken Jackson, recently seen in the Actors Bridge production of Sam Shepard's Simpatico, co-stars with Bakari King, under Paul Cook's direction.
Thursdays, Saturdays. Starts: June 18. Continues through July 25, 2009
