When a local hip-hop artist takes the initiative to remix one of the sacred scriptures of Golden Age Hip-Hop, it's usually a cringe-worthy affair exposing the remixer as a talentless hack with delusions of grandeur. The lesson? Don't mess with the classics, kids. Unless of course you're DJ Ghost Dogg, whose remix synth-and-flute of Mobb Deep's “Shook Ones Part 2” manages to actually add something to the song while maintaining the originals sense of tension and paranoia. Named for the only Jim Jarmusch movie worth watching more than once, Ghost Dogg perfected his craft during his enlistment, stationed in Virginia Beach and playing alongside some of the area’s best DJs—Timbaland, The Neptunes, those sorta folks. Also, earning him serious points with us? He name-drops Teddy Riley and he's opened for Guy. That's our kinda dude.
