This one-night-only remounting of Jene India's original play serves as a fundraiser benefiting the 2009 Shades of Black Theatre Festival, which runs Aug. 28-Sept. 26. Shawn Whitsell directs the tragicomic script, which focuses on four close friends, two of whom are mired in abusive marital relationships. Despite the essentially heavy theme, the playwright offers comedic moments and otherwise covers the subjects of friendship, marriage and dating in her contemporary scenario. The cast of 12 includes both director and author as well as rock-solid players such as Mary McCallum and Rashad Rayford.
