Hansel and Gretel at the Downtown LibraryStrangers With CandyBy Joe NolanPublished on May 23, 2009 at 3:43amThis week, kids big and small will be following the breadcrumbs to what promises to be a great new puppet production at the Downtown Library. Hansel and Gretel--the Grimm Brothers' tale of abandoned children, wicked stepmothers and cannibalistic witches--was probably not too shocking to peasants living through the plagues and famines of medieval Europe, but it's likely that this version will be toned down a bit. This yarn will be spun with the library's Peeko Puppets as well as a danke--a handmade wooden marionette gifted to the library by the Magdeburg Puppet Theater of Germany.
