If the wildly successful videogame franchise ever decides to expand with Dobro Hero, Douglas would be on the cover. Douglas’ speed and proficiency prompted Ricky Skaggs to dub him “Flux.” He’s a three-time CMA Musician of the Year and has won a dozen Grammys, many of them as a member of Alison KraussUnion Station. Since the ‘70s, Douglas has played with a cast of artists that reads like a Hall of Fame—Paul Simon, Ray Charles, Elvis Costello, Béla Fleck, Emmylou Harris, James Taylor, et al.—and released at least a dozen solo albums that showcase his felicitous tastes, from a jazzy, 10-minute, Eastern-toned composition penned by Bill Frisell to rocking 2005’s The Best Kept Secret alongside guitarists Derek Trucks and Keith Sewell. His latest, Glide, reflects his ’grass roots refracted through warm texture and tone that draws on his other varied influences.
