Luke Doucet & more at the Basement

The Americana Music Conference has finally provided the impetus for former, fleeting Nashville resident Luke Doucet to return to town from his permanent home in the great white Canadian north. He arrives on the heals of the release of his latest, Blood's Too Rich, an album that abandons its predecessor's preoccupation with heartache for musings on the newlywed's enduring transience. (Locals will smile at the name-dropping--Grimey!--"First Day (In The New Home Town)", a treatise on his arrival in Nashville, which includes the wistful worry that folks can sense "the north wind in my clothes.") Doucet is a master of filtering Americana through a smart pop lense--and of making infectious music, whether he's tackling an effortlessly immaculate guitar solo or asking for distraction by imploring, "Fill my mind with shallow girls and hockey." Yup, he's a Canuck alright.
