Brian Hull and his creative associates at Wishing Chair Productions have adapted this Jules Verne short story, and added some dazzling European-influenced puppetry techniques. A solo puppeteer tells the dark tale of a rich, bitter old doctor who lives in the fictional mountain town of Luktrop and who, eventually, learns a valuable lesson. Hull describes the story's feel as "creepy" and in the vein of Twilight Zone--hence this one is recommended for ages 7-up. Pete Carden has first crack at bringing the production to life, and other Wishing Chair performers will follow suit once the company embarks on local school tours. The running time is 30 minutes. Sarah Hart is the composer of the playlet's original soundtrack.
Saturdays, 2 p.m. Starts: Aug. 23. Continues through Oct. 11, 2008
