Movies@Main: Silent Film Trilogy by Rex Harsin

To Rex Harsin, a native Tupelo filmmaker working squarely in the Mack Sennett tradition, silence is golden. Evoking the vintage two-reelers of Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd and other greats of silent comedy—yet shooting in color with a modern-day setting—Harsin guides his Little Tramp-like vagabond through run-ins with billyclubs and boozers ("A Hole in the Bucket"), a bruising farmhand with a down-home boxing ring ("Classified Love") and a jealous boyfriend who means nothing but "Girl Trouble." Harsin will screen all three shorts and discuss their making as part of the downtown Nashville Public Library's monthly film series. Admission is free, and the films are suitable for the whole family.
