Composer-pianist Fred Barton co-created the infamous Forbidden Broadway, an institution that has been successfullyand hilariouslylampooning New York's theatrical performers and stage productions since the early 1980s. Barton is also the author of this one-man musical theater piece that's been presented in many regional venues for more than 20 years. Wizard of Oz fans all know Elmira Gulch, the movie's baddie, played with singular distinction by the late Margaret Hamilton. With plenty of double and triple entendres, Barton offers us the character's human sideher big number in Oz ("I'm a Bitch") gets cut, she becomes a regular on the piano-bar circuit, her romantic life is ill-fated and spinsterhood is her destiny. The new ACT I mounting features musical comedy kid Daniel Vincent working both the comic and dark aspects of the script. Brian T. Hill directs, with piano accompaniment by Jeffrey Williams.
