No affiliationIn the May 1 edition of the Nashville Scene, an article was published regarding an individual who calls himself Anthony Lucas (“Not Who He Says He Is”). Mr. Lucas apparently was a member on the Tennessee Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for a brief period of time several years ago. Currently—and for the past four years—Mr. Lucas has had no affiliation in anyway with our organization (TNHCC). Furthermore, none of the current members of the chamber’s board of directors were part of the chamber during the time Mr. Lucas was a member. The TNHCC is now under a totally new administration, and it is also going through the process of launching our new image and vision.RAMON CISNEROSPRESIDENT & CEO, TNHCCrcisneros@comcast.net (Nashville)
Man of goodThe review of Don Beisswenger’s book was just outstanding (“The Price of Dissent,” May 1). Don was around when my now 26-year-old son lost his dad at age 10. Don encouraged him to create something from a ball of clay. What resulted was something resembling “The Scream.” It was a man’s face. I asked Richard what it was called, and he said, “Pain.” Only someone with Don’s sensitivity would have known to do something like that with a heartbroken child.SUSAN MCBRIDEsusanhmcbride@gmail.com (Nashville)
Prove itIt was unfortunate and offensive that you chose to publish the Maria Browning review of the Beisswenger book (“The Price of Dissent,” May 1). Unfortunate, because neither of them bothered to do any research to find the truth about the Army’s School of the Americas. Offensive, because their comments are a moral libel of the soldiers who taught there. There is not a single example of anyone using what he learned there to commit a crime—not even one. I work at the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC), which replaced the school after the 2001 National Defense Authorization Act. Rev. Beisswenger has been here, which demonstrates that anyone can come in anytime to find out for him/herself what we do. I urge a visit before accepting the falsehoods of a fraudulent movement and before publishing falsehoods in your publication.LEE A. RIALSlee.rials@us.army.mil (Fort Benning, Ga.)
