And, the prolific songsmith continues to generate an onslaught of new material. Most recent is the Danny and the Nightmares’ single “Death of Satan” b/w “Monster Mash,” released by Spain’s Munster Records. The music is more than a little rough around the edges. Johnston hastily strums an electric guitar out of time with the drum sequence, as an assortment of instruments shriek in the background. The cacophony recalls a high school band recording a practice session and elicits the constant howl of a nearby dog. It’s an all too brief glimpse into the artist’s current mind state, when the record abruptly ends.“I’m going to draw some pictures now,” Johnston says. “Then I’ll probably take a nap.
